Gen3 Digital Map Case design review :
Over time, I've found it a pity that new TVs are dedicated to a single use, either it is for Digital MapCase or regular use.
The intention behind the revamped design of the Gen2 Digital Map case is to offer a TV that is just as usable as a Digital MapCase for DND players as a normal TV for watching movies or gaming. From this intention came several unique additions to the Gen3, elegant wooden legs for stand up position, accessible bolt pattern and a well choosen screen shield that feature anti-reflective & scratch-resistant protection. Carefully selected screen protection is the most important item to ensure that both uses can be used to their full potential. Also, the rear of the Gen3 has been designed following the logic of TV manufacturers who want to make all ports and the power supply easily accessible, as well as having placed a small vault for storing the remote control. One HDMI port is still acessible while the TV is put in Digital MapCase position ; no need to play with the connection.
As for the Gen2 Digital MapCase, serious attention has been given to the ''heatbox'' problem. The ''heatbox'' is a major design flaw involving a heat-generating device encased in a virtually hermetic box. The inability of the heat to escape will then have a destructive effect on the device, producing heat that damages inner-components and results in a shortened useful life. All TV produce heat. A simple TV trapped in a wooden box sealed by a plexiglass is therefor a ''heatbox''. The Gen3 Digital Map Case, as his predecessor the Gen2, is specifically designed to remedy this effect by allowing heat to exit the box vertically, bypassing the TV via the carved-in exhaust.
Thanks to the small polylastomer feet, all wire can run freely under the Gen3 Digital Map Case. Access to the power supply and all possible connections to the TV is via the large openings at the rear of the unit, which also allow easy replacement of the hot air that naturally escapes vertically through the carved-in exhaust.
